Project Natal is a module that can be added onto the existing Xbox 360. Project Natal incorporates sensors that track a player’s full body movements while responding to spoken commands, directions and even shifts in emotional tone.
Project Natal uses monochrome camera that can tell how far away a player’s body is. Project Natal can also track the positions of multiple players.
Inside the console there is software that can find 48 of the body’s joints. For games with more than one player, Project Natal’s software can tell the difference between competitors’ voices. It can also distinguish between the voice of competitors and background noise.
Although there is no scheduled release date, some commentators speculate it could be at least a year before we see Project Natal on store shelves.
