Parade Magazine’s A.J. Jacobs recently got hands-on experience with Microsoft’s Project Natal, and while he called the experience simultaneously tiring and fun, the accompanying video of Jacobs’s experience is the real story here.
Now, I think we all understood that for the most part Natal would make us look crazy, but seeing it on video like this makes you realize just how crazy you look. If you pretend that the Natal sensor isn’t even in some of the shots, Jacobs and his family just look like they’re dancing while inebriated. I’m not calling Jacobs ridiculous, I’m simply saying that Natal will really accentuate the “you look so dumb while playing this” thought that came along with the Wii.
In the same way that we eventually didn’t care about looking dumb with the Wii, I think that the insanity of playing Natal will contribute to what makes it fun. I can definitely see this being trotted out while drunk guys and girls try to swat dodgeballs away to no avail.
Oh, and for the sake of reference, feel free to compare the elegant movements displayed by the woman in the white sweater above to the classic Seinfeld episode clip below. Drunken dancing indeed.
